Hillman Library was one of my favorite places on the Pitt campus. The spaces were both functional and attractive and the art displayed on every floor was very interesting. There were lots of places one could "hide" or find some privacy while studying. As a first-year student in 1968, just one year after Hillman was built, I loved spending time there. My experiences as a student library worker at Hillman led to my first job after graduation, which was as an administrative assistant at a small media library in the School of Health Related professions, where I met my first husband. This position led me to pursue a graduate library degree at SLIS, and while earning my degree, I held two different full-time positions at Hillman in the reference department and bibliographic control unit. From there, I went on to a 32-year career at Saint Francis University in Loretto PA, serving as cataloger and instructor of library science for 4 years, as library director for 18, and ending my career as vice president for strategic initiates. But it all started "way back when" at Hillman Library.
