Abstract: Virginia Mae Lacy Jones (1912-1984), whose name is synonymous with
African American librarianship throughout the world, was an extraordinary library
educator and leader in the profession. This poster session displays the
characteristics, attributes, and accomplishments of an exceptional leader who
overcame adversity to become the second African American to receive a doctoral
degree in Library Science in 1945. Her leadership skills are demonstrated via her
many honors and professional position throughout her career. The impact of many
