How do I find books...if I know the author?

To find a book using the book's author, go to http://pittcat.pitt.edu/, and click on the Author/Title button. When you search PITTCat, don't worry about capital letters, and omit all punctuation.

For an author search, type the author's last name, and then first name or first initial in the Search for: box. For example, if you wanted to find books by the author Stephen King, you would type king stephen. Then, select Author in the Search by: menu at the right, and click on the gray Search button at the bottom.

Your results will show all those authors with that name or names close to that name. If the name is very common, you may have to choose between more than one author. To see those items Pitt has by an author, simply click on the author's name, and you will get an alphabetic list of all those items we have by that author.

Each entry will list a title and, to the right, on which campus that item is located. Below the item title, most entries will indicate which library it is in, the item's call number, and if the item is available to borrow. To see the full catalog record, simply click on the Full Title of the item.

The catalog record will give you all the information you would need to locate that item. You will be given a description of the item, location information like the library and collection the item is in, the item's call number and if the item is available or checked out. Write down the location and the item's call number, you'll need this information to go find the book.
