Services for Users With Disabilities

In accordance with our mission and in compliance with ADA, the University Library System (ULS) offers several services for patrons with disabilities.

Building access: All ULS libraries are wheel-chair accessible. Hillman Library, for example, has an automatic exterior entrance on the far left door, facing the building, and another on the interior entrance, on the far left side.

Photocopying and book retrieval: Assistance with book retrieval is available at all ULS libraries. Ask at the reference desk. The Hillman Library Requests From Other Libraries Office (648-7891), Ground Floor Hillman Library, will photocopy materials for those who require assistance. Requests can be left at the Photocopy Office, and patrons will be contacted when requests are ready. For photocopies, patrons are asked to leave a Vendacard in order to cover any copying charges.

Access to Adobe Acrobat (PDF) files: To insure the accessibility of files on the ULS Web site that are in PDF format, the library provides links to a free, online, PDF conversion utility. Access.Adobe.Com is a tool that allows blind and visually impaired users to read any document in Adobe PDF format. The tool converts PDF documents into simple HTML or ASCII text which can then be read by a number of common screen reading programs that synthesize the HTML as audible speech. The online conversion form is available at: http://www.adobe.com/enterprise/accessibility/main.html.
