Endnote and Mendeley Training Session Sign-up Form

Citation management tools are popular research tools that let users build and store personalized collections of references, organize and manage these citations within folders, build bibliographies and automatically format and insert citations within papers. The University Library System offers free classes in Endnote and Mendeley to help you use these time-saving tools.

Endnote is the industry standard for citation management tools.  Endnote is used by millions of researchers to search online bibliographic databases, organize references and related files, and create bibliographies and figure lists instantly.  Endnote is free to University of Pittsburgh faculty and students, and can be downloaded at http://www.technology.pitt.edu/software.html .

Mendeley is a new citation management tool that offers all the basic citation management tool features, plus features like social networking with other researchers and a searchable crowd-sourced database approaching 100 million documents.  Mendeley is freely available at www.mendeley.com, and the University Library System offers an enhanced version of Mendeley to all University of Pittsburgh members.

These hands-on classes are one and a half hours long, and are free of charge for all Pitt affiliates.  Each training session will cover creating an account, searching resources and exporting citations to Endnote or Mendeley, organizing collections of citations, attaching files to citations, creating and formatting bibliographies of citations, and inserting citations automatically into documents.  Laptop owners: If you have a laptop that is set up for wireless PittNet, please bring it to use during the session.  Both Mendeley and Endnote use a desktop version that is linked to an individual account.  If you would like to use the desktop software during class, please bring your own computer with the software already loaded on it.

Class sizes are limited, so please register for a class.

Training sessions will be held in the Hillman Library ground floor instruction area.
