Research Guide for Engineers

Whether for a term paper in school or for a project on the job, engineers need to be able to conduct effective research throughout their careers. The ability to find useful, relevant, and authoritative information is a skill engineers can develop, just as they learn how to use MATLAB, or how to communicate effectively.

Effective library research is a combination of knowing where to search and how to construct your question. This guide contains fundamental concepts about types of engineering resources and how to find the information you need within those resources. Read through these pages, then return to them as you conduct research and need further clarification.

Many of the pages on this site will refer you to resources found on the University Library System's home page (www.library.pitt.edu) or listed in the Engineering Subject Guide.
