2007, August Invitation to attend the Annual Circle Dinner at Lynch Hall on the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg Campus on Friday, Sept. 7, 2007. This year’s dinner sponsored by Dr. Ted Zaleskiewicz in honor of Dr. Sharon P. Smith, President of Pitt-Greensburg.

2007, August 2. To: University Staff and Supervisors of Staff. Subject: University Hours of Business. {…Briefly, the units of the University must be open between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. This applies to all regional campuses of the University, without exception. Beginning August 13, individual full-time staff members will be expected to observe the 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. work day schedule…any arrangements other than the standard work day of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. [i.e. flex time) would be work-driven, the exception and not the rule, and would need to be reported to my office for consideration.]

[Ltr format, 2p.] To: Dear Colleague [Pitt-Greensburg faculty] [Subjects include, inter alia: thoughts after my first month on campus and my plans for the near future; Pitt-Greensburg as an undiscovered gem, a campus with unrecognized and unrealized potential; at the July 17, 18 retreat for campus leaders [SPS] learned that the Class of 2011 enrollment was up by 24% over last year, recent approval of 19 minors, development of proposals for new majors in education and chemistry, work of marketing task force leading to proposals for standards on print and web publications and recommendations on “branding” and “tag lines” for the campus: Pitt-Greensburg, rather than UPG, as its brand name; selected “Discover Yourself…Discover Your World” as tag-line marketing efforts over the next year; conversation over the next year will lead to a strategic plan for an exciting future for the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg.]

2007, August 20. To: All Faculty and Staff. Subject: Vice President for Academic Affairs. [I am delighted to inform you that the Provost has approved my request to appoint Dr. J. Wesley Jamison, Vice President for Academic Affairs, effective September 1, 2007. Dr. Jamison has served as Interim Vice President since July, 2006…]

2007, Sept. 10. To: Pitt-Greensburg Faculty and Staff. Re: La Cultura 2008. [This year’s theme for La Cultura is Egypt: Crossroads of Civilization. There will be a series of lectures illuminating various aspects of Egyptian cultural achievement, as well as the annual fundraising dinner that raises money for the International Study Abroad Program and the Guy Rossetti International Study Scholarship. The campus will host the La Cultura dinner on January 19, 2008. The cost to faculty and staff and their guest is $100, a reduction of $30 from the usual price. As an added convenience, we are offering employees the option to pay for their ticket(s) in a series of installments (Option 1, 4 payments of $25; Option 2, 3 payments at $33.33 per payment; Option 3, 2 payments of $50 per payment).

[Asks assistance in identifying students who should be nominated for the Da Vinci Society, the most prestigious honor at Pitt-Greensburg; discusses the necessary attributes which Da Vinci scholars should possess; attachment gives a list of Pitt-Greensburg students who have completed at least 60 credits and have attained at least a 3.5 GPA; requests nominations of worthy students no later than Oct. 10, 2007 by informing Dr. Elisa Beshero-Bondar; prerequisites for those who become Da Vinci Scholars include a $1,000 scholarship for tuition or travel and special recognition at the Graduation ceremony.]

[Announces that the tradition of acknowledging the outstanding performance of staff at Pitt-Greensburg will continue with a new award, the President’s Distinguished Service Award for Staff. Enclosed at the year’s [2007] program and nomination form and criteria, as well as, a description of the nomination and selection process. Nomination packets must be received no later than 4 p.m., Thursday Dec. 6. The winner of the award will be announced at the Staff Holiday Luncheon and Recognition Program on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007. Goldwater Scholarships for undergraduates in the sciences, Morris K. Udall scholarships for undergraduates studying environmental policy, Marshall Scholarships which support graduate study in the United Kingdom in all fields, Rhodes Scholarships which support graduate study at Oxford. 2008, Aug. 21. [To:] Dear Faculty. [Announces a new chemistry major which was developed under Mark Stauffers leadership, approved by PACUP, and is rolling out this year. Announces development (in process) of two broad majors, elementary and secondary education, coupled with disciplinary specialization and an option for a full second major. The elementary education major was approved at the May PACUP meeting and the secondary education major is returning to the September PACUP hopefully for approval. Vicki Barnot and Melissa Marks have been leading the development of the education program.]

2010, May 19 To: Dear Colleagues. Subject. [Results of Inspection of FOB and Powers Hall by the Univ. of Pgh. Dept. of Environmental Health and Safety] [Inspection made as a result of some questions which were raised about related illnesses being associated with the Faculty Office Building and Powers Hall. Report (attached) gives both buildings a clean bill of health.]

Vice Chancellor Jerome Cochran, of Kathleen Schreiber of the Pgh. Campus Police Dept. as Regional Commander who will interact regularly with the heads of the regional campus police departments on regional issues in all system discussions of safety and security. She will continue to report directly to Chief Delaney on the Pgh. campus. Commander Schreiber's office is on the Pitt-Greensburg campus. Appointment effective 7/1/10.]
