Korean Language

KOSNET is a website offering an educational space to learn the Korean language through the Internet. Since 1998, KOSNET has provided various learning programs considering levels of users’ Korean ability, a network to link educational institutes, and VOD services on Korean culture.

2. Declan’s Korean Language page

This site provides good resources about Korean language including information about Hangul (Korean Langugage) itself, grammar, weekly vocabulary list that learners can easily follow, and links to related other sites for learning the language. It also contains links of Korean dictionaries and some information about Korean learning software.

3. An Introduction to Korean by J. David Eisenberg

A website which was made by a person who is actually interested in learning Korean language. It provides various methods to learn the language and memorize vocabulary, including some interactive quiz. It also has a tourism guides and photos of Korea.

This is an organization to promote Korean Studies all around the world, funded by the Korean government. This organization provides various supports for Korean Studies overseas, including fellowship and publication support, and many programs for cultural and personal exchanges. This foundation publishes several magazines and newsletters online as well as in-print. It also provides good Internet resources about Korean Studies such as a list and links of Korean Studies Centers over the world and conferences information.

Established by Queens Library in NY. It provides great links about most of subjects from Literature, History, Law, and Reference material, to sports and entertainment in Korea.

 

3. Korea Institute at Harvard University : http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~korea/index.html

This institute at Harvard has a fame for its valuable resources and activities. Their site offers important information, i.e., Korean studies courses in 1998-1999, North American Korean Studies directory, Mailing list, Post Doc information, Graduate students conferences.  In addition, the site shows visiting scholars from other countries at Yenching Institute, one of the world famous Asian Studies institutes.

4. Center for Korean Studies in University of California at Berkeley  http://ieas.berkeley.edu/cks/

Originally part of a combined Center for Japanese and Korean Studies, a separate Center for Korean Studies was established in 1979 in recognition of Korea's growing importance in world affairs . The web sites provide information about various events, courses, Korean collections, publication, and links about Korea. Center for Korean Research, the first of its kind in Canada, was established to carry out, co-ordinate, and facilitate research on Korea through multidisciplinary approaches since 1982.

The Institute of Korean History was established to contribute toward developing Korean national culture and overcoming the severance of the nation's history during the era of Japanese occupation. It was founded in 1946 as an independent official agency by the Republic of Korea. This website has an extensive database of Korean history covering from ancient time to contemporary history. Limited information in English and Japanese.

Provides various search methods to obtain information on ancestral home, family title, and originator, including family title, name/nickname, national civil service examination records, official designations, year of birth, year of death, birth and death year according to sexagenary cycle, genealogy chart, etc. Produced by  the Jongyeonggak of the Academy of East Asian Studies, Sungkyunkwan University (成均館大學校 東亞洲學術院 尊經閣).

The national digital library is the most inclusive service that one can retrieve bibliographic and full-text information from a vast database of all collections in 6 major libraries in Korea. It was built as a national level by the government’s efforts to improve national competitiveness in the knowledge-information society of this 21st century by providing needed information through on-line with enhancement and development of the sharing system in national information resources, based on the exemplary effect of information service system in the digital library. The participated major libraries in Korea are t he National Library of Korea, the National Assembly Library of Korea, Supreme Court Library, KISTI (Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information), KERIS (Korea Education and Research Information Service), and Science Library of KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology).
