Chinese Statistics
1. Printed Resources
- Statistic reference books Such as: 《中国历代戶口, 田地, 田赋统计》、《中国煤炭工业统计资料汇编 1949 – 2004》、《中国农业统计资料汇编, 1949-2004》、《新中国五十五年统计资料汇编》、《中国棉花统计资料汇编1949 – 2000》、《中国乡镇企业统计资料 (1978-2002)》、《上海市国民经济和社会发展历史统计资料 (1949-2000)》、《中国性别统计资料, 1990-1995》, etc.
- Locate printed statistics materials in the EAL Most of printed statistics materials are located in the EAL reference area on the second floor of Hillman ibrary.
- Go to PITTCat – select “Keyword search”
- For statistics yearbooks type the target word, “nian jian” , and “statistics”
- Sample one: looking for a statistics yearbook regarding Shanghai.
Type: “Shanghai”, and “nian jian”
- Sample two: Looking for statistics regarding Chinese agriculture
Type: “agriculture” and “statistics”
2. CD-ROMs
Chinese CD-ROM Standalone Workstation
Hundreds of CD-ROM titles of statistic yearbooks have been installed into the Chinese CD-ROM standalone workstation located at the East Asian Library Reference Desk area. Some statistics yearbooks up to the year 2002 are included. See below for categories and title lists.
综合年鉴光盘库 (Comprehensive Subject Yearbook CD-ROM Database). Refer to the List (PDF file) for complete titles in various subjects.
地方年鉴光盘库 (Yearbooks by localities) . Refer to the PDF file for complete titles.
行业年鉴光盘库 (Yearbooks by industries). Refer to the PDF file for complete titles.
Access: The workstation is available for use during hours when the Reference Desk is open and staffed, i.e, 10-12, 1-5pm, Monday to Friday. Summer hours vary. Please contact the staff at the Reference Desk for logon information. You may always ask the staff at the Desk or in office 207 for assistance in using the CD-ROM workstation.
3. Web Sources
The China Data Center at the University of Michigan is a national center designed to advance the study and understanding of China. Economic, social, and historical statistics (mainly started from 2002) at the national, regional and local levels are included.
On-campus Access:
- From “Database A to Z” of the ULS website
- From the "Electronic Resource" on EAL website
- From PITTCat : Search for “China data online”, open the record and then click the link
Remote access:
- Enter the SSL VPN site directly by clicking on:
https://sslvpn.pitt.edu. Once into the VPN site, access it as an on-campus user through ways indicated above.
China InfoBank is a web-based online service on China's news, business, legal and statistics information.
On-campus Access:
- From the "Electronic Resource" on EAL website, or
- From PITTCat : Search for “China InfoBank ”, open the record, then click on the link.
- Enter the SSL VPN site directly by clicking on:
https://sslvpn.pitt.edu. Once into the VPN site, access it as an on-campus user through ways indicated above.
