The Archives Service Center contains audio recordings and visual images dating from the 1860s through the present day. This material is in the form of negatives, prints, slides, film, video, DVDs, standard audiocassettes, CDs and MP3 files. The collections document Pittsburgh regional history, people, organizations, and industry.

Visual Images

Over 700,000 photographic images support the manuscript collections of the archives. These collections include images documenting Pittsburgh’s industrial past, local groups and organizations, and photographs of prominent residents. Many of the photographic collections in the archives are also featured online in our digital collections, such as:

Audio/Video Collections

Thousands of hours of 16mm film and video are included in our collections.  These range from local news film to industrial footage to documentary footage.  A few of our collections include:

Oral History Collections

The Archives has conducted and acquired a variety of oral history collections with a local genesis and focus. These stories of immigrants, labor leaders, and community leaders lend a first hand account of the lives of some of Pittsburgh’s most important residents.  The collections provide access to Pittsburghers in their own words.  The Archives Service Center features over 1,400 interviews from collections such as:
