GOVERNMENT, POLITICAL AND SOCIAL ACTIVISM
Papers and records which document the political activity and participation of individuals and organizations are sources for study of the changing relationship of a citizenry with its government, the evolution of democratic participation, and the responsiveness of government to interest groups. The core group of the state and local government material consists of papers of local congressmen, state assemblymen, city/county government officials, together with the records of local presidential campaign committees and of local minority parties. The Dick Thornburgh Archives is a major addition to this area of research.
The Archives also holds collections documenting various movements and activities of local organizations and individuals on the right and left in politics, economics, religion, and social affairs.
