Owen Library- Interlibrary Loan Service
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service available to University of Pittsburgh students, faculty, and staff who possess a current Pitt ID card. This service allows you to obtain materials not owned by Owen Library, but owned by another library in the University Library System (ULS) or from other libraries throughout the world. ILL also allows you to request materials that are listed in PITTCat+ as checked out or lost.
There are three options for requesting books through ILL: Get It!, E-ZBorrow, or the ILL online request form. For requesting material from other ULS libraries, use the Get It! Service; for requesting books not owned by ULS libraries, use the E-ZBorrow service. To request material not owned by either the University Library System or E-ZBorrow, submit an online ILL request.
Get It!
Get It! is a service to request material within the University Library System (ULS), but not available at Owen Library. When using PITTCat+, simply select the <Get It!> option. Enter your user name and password, then select <Get it!> from the drop down box on the next screen. Finally, fill-in the information request, making sure to choose "Johnstown Lending" as the pick-up location in the drop down box.
You can also use Get it! to request journal articles and to request books or journals from Storage.
E-ZBorrow
E-ZBorrow allows you to search for books from other academic libraries across Pennsylvania and the surrounding region. You obtain instant search results, and your request can usually be filled more quickly than borrowing through traditional ILL services. Only books are available through E-ZBorrow, so please use Get It! or the online ILL form for journal articles.
To search and request an item using E-ZBorrow, click on the Get it! link in it's PittCat+ record, then click on EZBorrow and enter your PITT ID number.
Online ILL Request
For items not available via E-ZBorrow, submit an ILL online request here.
Most items are obtained free of charge, and requests usually take 5 to 10 business days to be filled. Start your research early for best results. When your requested material arrives, you will be notified through your PITT e-mail, and you can pick it up at the Owen Library Circulation Desk. Each lending library determines its own loan periods, but most often you may keep a requested book for 28 days. Likewise, each library determines its own overdue fines, and they may be as high as $1.00 a day.
Questions or requests for assistance regarding any part of the Interlibrary Loan process, including Get It! and E-ZBorrow, can be directed to the Owen Library Circulation Desk or ILL Office (269-7292).
