Hanley Library A Pocket of Peace

A Pocket of Peace was written by Mrs. Mary Ann Johnston. Mrs. Johnston, a native of McKean County, lived in Bradford for 65 years. She was born in Kane and was reared on a family farm in Ludlow, a graduate of Kane Area Schools, Mrs. Johnston attended Allegheny College in Meadville and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania College for Women in Philadelphia in 1934, the first year women received degrees from the University of Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Johnston was associated with Bradford Area Schools for 21 years from 1956 to 1977 as a ninth grade teacher of Latin and English. She was a member of the Current Events Club, Friends of the Hanley Library, The Centennial Committee, and the Committee for the Preservation of Old City Hall. Mrs. Johnston had three daughters, Kathleen Comilla and Rosanne Conaway of Bradford, Allison Wozniak of Pittsburgh, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Mrs. Johnston passed away in her home on October 2, 1999.
