How to Access Federal, State and City of Pittsburgh Tax Forms

The IRS is no longer distributing federal tax forms and publications to Hillman Library.
Pennsylvania tax forms are still being distributed to the library.

Paper Forms, Instructions and Publications:
The IRS Web site is the easiest place to get forms and publications. Forms are available back to 1990.
You can call 1-800-829-3676 to have forms, instructions and publications sent to you through the mail.
Forms are still being sent to many Post Offices and smaller libraries. The Oakland post office has forms.
The library keeps Reproducible Tax Forms from the IRS at the Hillman Library Reference/Information Desk and older years are shelved under SuDocs number T22.44/2: in the Government Publications collection on the ground floor. Photocopying forms in the library cost $.15 per page.
From the end of January through April you can pick up Pennsylvania state tax forms at the Hillman Library Reference/Information Desk.
The library does not receive forms from the City of Pittsburgh. City forms can be obtained at the Carnegie Public Library of Pittsburgh, online, and directly from the city's Department of Finance by calling 412-255-8822.

How Can I Get Help Filling Out My Tax Forms?
There is FREE tax assistance available throughout the area. You can check with your local public
library to see if VITA volunteers will be available. To locate the nearest VITA site, call
1.800.829.1040.
Local IRS offices do offer face-to-face tax assistance, including the office at the Federal Building downtown:

You can also call the IRS for telephone tax assistance, Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. your local time (Alaska & Hawaii follow Pacific Time). When calling, you may ask questions to help you prepare your tax return, or ask about a notice you have received.

The University Library System does not provide tax assistance and library staff are unable to answer your tax questions. We can help you locate your form or tax treaty but cannot interpret tax instructions or treaties for you.
