Recently,
the organization that oversees the creation of new Internet addresses,
know as ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), created
six more domain names. While these domains are not common, because
of the accelerated growth of the World Wide Web, you may see them more
frequently in the future.
An individual
person; used for personal email or web address. e.g. http://www.bobsmith.name/
Self-certified
professional; this domain is still under negotiation. e.g. http://www.bobsmith.pro/
When you look at
a URL or domain name, you should ask a few questions:
Do you recognize
the name? Is it a reputable and authoritative source such as the news
source CNN (www.cnn.com)
or a governmental source like the United States Senate (www.senate.gov)?
Is the domain a
commercial Internet service provider (ISP) or provider of web page hosting
(AOL, Juno, Geocities, etc.)? If so, it may be a personal web site.
