When you look at a URL or domain name, you should ask a few questions:

  • Do you recognize the name? Is it a reputable and authoritative source such as the news source CNN (www.cnn.com) or a governmental source like the United States Senate (www.senate.gov)?

  • Is the domain a commercial Internet service provider (ISP) or provider of web page hosting (AOL, Juno, Geocities, etc.)? If so, it may be a personal web site.
