Quick Guide to the Millstein Library
The UPG campus maintains an expanding
undergraduate library of approximately 75,000 print volumes. In addition to the regular book collection,
resources include a wide variety of periodicals, compact discs, videorecordings,
and DVDs. The UPG Archives, as well as a childrens literature and curriculum collection, are also available to library patrons. Equipment for patron use includes a microfilm reader/printer and several dvd/vcr players. An open access digital media and computer
lab is available for all
Pitt students with a current Pitt ID card. The library also lends laptops to current Pitt students, faculty and staff.
THE DIGITAL LIBRARY
The University of Pittsburgh's online discovery tool, PITTCat+ is available through library workstations or through your own computer. The Digital Library contains bibliographic, visual, textual, and statistical databases. PITTCat+ allows you to search all databases from one single interface. The system has additional features including the ability to subscribe to RSS feeds, export citations and files to popular programs such as EndNote or Mendeley, and the ability to refine your searches by format, location, and other criteria. The Pitt Library System also subscribes to OverDrive, a collection of audio and eBooks available for download by Pitt users.

If a book is not on the shelf, a hold may be placed on the item for you. You will be notified upon its return. Some types of reserve materials may be charged out for a limited time. The UPG campus has reciprocal borrowing with other academic libraries in the area: Penn State-Fayette, Penn State-Greater Allegheny, Penn State-New Kensington, St. Vincent, Seton Hill and WCCC. Pamphlets explaining the reciprocal borrowing program are available at the information desk.
General collection: 25 cents per day, per item. Reserve material: one dollar per day, per item.
A member of the regular library staff is available to assist you in your research. Students may request an individual consultation session with a librarian and/or search online LibGuides, developed by librarians from the University Library System, that provide pertinent assistance in researching many academic subjects. Ask for additional assistance in person at the desk, send an email through our website at Ask a Librarian, or telephone us at 724-836-9687.
