President, 1997, August-2007, June Cassell, Dr. Frank A.
Dr. Frank A. Cassell was named as third president of the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg in June, 1997 and assumed his duties on August 11, 1997. He graduated from Wabash College with a bachelor’s degree in history and received his master’s and doctoral degrees in history from Northwestern University. He worked at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee for 24 years, serving as assistant chancellor for university relations, interim dean of the School of Social Welfare, chairman of the history department and director of the urban studies program. Dr. Cassell became vice provost and dean of the Albert A. Robin Campus of Roosevelt University in Illinois. He was born in 1941 and is married to Elizabeth Weber Cassell. Retired from the Office of the President effective June 30, 2007.

[Changes in the software used by the University of admissions and financial aid together with a redesigned form have drastically reduced the number of "options" students who usually make up nearly half of an entering UPG freshman class. Currently we have 417 deposited freshmen out of 550 that we need to restore our budget. In addition there are 12 more transfer students to UPG than this time last year. These can be counted towards our goal. In terms of returning students, 1,107 have enrolled for the fall compared to 1, 104 at this time last year. Wesley Jamison will assume the post of Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs on July 1, 2006. He replaces Dr. Norman Scanlon who will return to the faculty and take up the responsibilities of Chair of the Div. of the Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Mary Beth Spore, Assistant to the President for University Relations and Institutional Advancement, has announced her resignation as of June 30, 2006 to take up the position of Dean of the Social Sciences, Communication, and Education at St. Vincent College. UPG has received one of the largest grants in its history. The Richard King Mellon Foundation awarded UPG a $500,000 grant for the second time. This grant is directed towards the building of a second floor on McKenna Hall, the campus computer center.]

There will be a series of lectures illuminating various aspects of Chinese cultural achievement. On Saturday, Jan. 13, the campus will host its annual La Cultura fundraising dinner. Proceeds from this event go to the Guy Rossetti Fund to support students wishing to travel and study abroad. This is the sixth dinner for La Cultura. This years entertainers from the organization of Chinese Americans Youth Ensemble will perform. The cost to faculty and staff and their guest is $100, a reduction of $30 from the usual price.]
