Circulation Policies
A Pitt ID card or a Bradford Community Patron card is needed to check out ALL materials. Periodicals and reference books do not circulate.
Length of Loan and Overdue Fine Information
Students who have overdue books or who owe the library money for lost or overdue materials will be unable to register and will not receive grades at the end of the semester. Use "My Account" in PITTCat+ to check your fines, fees, loan dates, renewal dates, status of online requests, etc.
Telephone renewals are available during regular Hanley Library hours at 814-362-7610. Privacy laws prohibit us from releasing information concerning your records over the telephone, so please have the following information ready when you call:
- Your University of Pittsburgh ID card or Community Patron Card number.
- The barcode numbers of the books you wish to review.
Telephone renewal restrictions: Books that circulate for four weeks may be renewed up to three times. Books that circulate for two weeks can only be renewed once. Community Patrons may renew their books once for another two weeks.
Renewing Your Books Online
- Connect to PITTCat+, the online catalog of the University of Pittsburgh libraries.
- From the main screen choose My Account.
- Enter your University ID# under Patron Barcode and your last name in the Last Name field and click OK.
- A list of titles charged to your account appears. Click the checkbox under the Renew? column next to those titles you want to renew. Click Renew Items.
- Confirm that all books were actually renewed.
- You may also request to have books renewed by presenting your ID card at the Hanley Library.
- Patrons can also access any outstanding fines, requests, or verify their current mailing address.
- If you want to verify your renewals or have questions about online renewals please call 814-362-7610.
There is an outside book return to the left of the front doors. Please use it when the library is closed.
Reserves
Items which have been placed on reserve are available at the Circulation Desk. Ask for them by the professor's name, and title of the item. The professor determines the time period allowed for use of reserves: 2 hours (in library only), 24 hours, or 5 days. Fines for reserve items are $1.80 per hour per item for two-hour loans and $1.00 per day per item for all other reserve material. There is no grace period on reserve materials.
Copies
A copier is available for use at 10 cents a copy. Microfilm may be printed for 10 cents a copy.
Quiet Study Areas
The first floor Reading Room and the entire second floor are quiet study areas. There should be no group study or conversation in these areas. If you must communicate, please do so in writing.
Group Study Areas
There are five group study rooms on the second floor. In addition the Laing Room (for special collections) on the first floor may be used for group study. Two to four people may use these rooms by checking out a room key at the Circulation Desk. Rooms may not be reserved ahead of time.
Food and Drink
There should be no food in the library. Drinks are allowed as long as they have a lid, but are not allowed in the computer areas or the Laing Room (special collections).
Interlibrary Loans
All interlibrary loan requests must be submitted using the online forms.
Interlibrary loan service from this site is available to University of Pittsburgh students, faculty and staff members affiliated with the Bradford Campus only.
It must be clear that Pitt-Bradford's resources have been searched and used completely before interlibrary loans become appropriate.
The borrower is responsible for all loan and photocopying charges (a minimum of 15 cents per page for photocopies). Books and photocopies from outside the University of Pittsburgh system will cost a minimum of $5.00 per item.
At least two weeks should be allowed for the arrival of interlibrary loans. Costs remain the responsibility of the patron whether or not materials arrive in time to be useful.
Overdue interlibrary loans will be fined at the rate set by the lending library. (at least 25 cents per day)
