The East Asian Library supports the Asian Studies Center for instruction and research in Chinese, Japanese and Korean studies. The library houses major collections in East Asian languages in most of the humanities and social sciences disciplines.

It is one of the major East Asian collections in North America, with about 249,500 volumes of Chinese, 119,200 volumes of Japanese, 7,600 volumes of Korean and 14,800 volumes of English language materials, around 11,100 reels of microfilms, over 26 current newspapers, 1,800 multi-media resources, 12 major area studies online databases, plus over 900 titles of periodicals (over 48,000 volumes bound) published in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and Korea. As of June 2007, it ranks the 14th in total volume holdings among East Asian libraries in North America.
